SINCE 1970.

Big Thunder Nordic offers a range of ski programs for children, youth and adults.  The main goal of our programs is to teach proper cross-country skiing techniques, but we hope to do more than that!  We also want our programs to help build lasting friendships among participants, coaches and families.  We hope every skier learns to appreciate everything winter has to offer and discover the true beauty of a sport that can be enjoyed for a lifetime.

Be part of the Big Thunder Nordic team!  As a volunteer-run club, Big Thunder Nordic depends on member involvement and commitment for the success of the club.  Volunteering is a great way to be involved in the ski community, learn new skills, make new friends and have fun!  There is a role for everyone no matter your skills or time, including coaching, fundraising, bingo, team management, board member, and race and club events.  All volunteers are required to complete the Volunteer Application Form found in the Athlete/Parent Handbook as per Big Thunder’s Safe Sport policy.

Big Thunder Nordic Ski Club’s mission is to exercise a leadership role in the development and promotion of the sport of cross-country skiing in the community of Thunder Bay, through programs and services for all ages and abilities of athletes, participants, coaches/leaders, officials, and volunteers.

To achieve this, Big Thunder Nordic has developed strong partnerships in the ski community.  The club is proud to be based out of Kamview Nordic Centre and to offer youth and adult programming at Kamview’s exceptional facilities.  The club also has a successful partnership with Lakehead University and provides coaching services to the highly competitive Thunderwolves Varsity Nordic Ski Team.  Big Thunder Nordic is also a member club of the Lakehead Superior Nordic Association, Cross Country Ski Ontario, and Nordiq Canada.
